About Us
Respond SA is a statement by Relationships Australia (SA) of our continued commitment to provide services that reflect the changing needs of adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Relationships Australia (SA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. It received funding from the Department for Families and Communities from June 2004 until June 2008 to develop Respond SA as a dedicated service for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse The cessation of government funding means the structure of Respond SA has changed, our values and objectives remain the same but we are no longer able to deliver services free of charge from one dedicated program area.
Relationships Australia (SA) provides a high level of skilled services in counselling, community education and professional training. We are not linked to any church and can assure clients that our services are free from any conflict of interest in order to provide a totally independent service. We recognise that childhood sexual abuse occurs in many different settings and that we have a broader brief to meet the significant unmet need of all adult survivors.
We are able to continue to deliver various services. Our staff who worked in Respond SA when it received government funding are highly skilled in supporting adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, their expertise is now woven throughout Relationships Australia (SA) through the creation of new roles. All staff at Relationships Australia (SA) receive ongoing training, supervision, and increased experience in supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse. We also continue to provide training opportunities for health and community services.
Our work involves improving the wellbeing of people; improving the relationships that are fundamental to personal and relationship wellbeing; and facilitate the conditions in which people can make choices in relation to their own sense of wellbeing, in their personal and family relationships, in their work context and in their participation in their local community.
Our work involves contributing to the development of relationships which are respectful and fulfilling, and assisting people to have more influence in their lives and to make changes that improve their lives:
- At home
- At work
- In the community
- Between communities.
We believe that the environments which best support people are ones in which diversity is valued, where relationships are respectful, where people have a sense of connection and belonging and an opportunity to learn and develop.
